The Principle to Live By
Considering all of the diversity that exists in society today, it seems quite hard to pick a single principle to live by. Yet, I have chosen to pick the principle of treat others as you would treat yourself. Although, at first it might seem as a bit of a cliche, most of the most efficient and reasonable principles are found to be cliches since they can be part of our everyday life. And so, the reason why I have decided to choose the following way of life is because it can easily cover every aspect of living. What I mean by this idea is that it can mean to love each other, respect each other, take care of each other, and so on as we would for ourselves. If together, as a society, can learn to treat each other with dignity and respect, much of the tensions and struggles that are faced could be dissolved. To also contribute with this principle, showing compassion and patience with others could lessen the stress and tensions among family, friends, a community and even a nation.

Treating others the way you would treat yourself would be great for the world, if people would actually act that way. In reality, most people would put themselves before others. While there may be the few exceptions, but even in the world today it is clear to see that most people are valuing themselves more than others. So in a world where something tragic or devastating has happened it isn't practical to treat others as you would treat yourself, it sounds harsh but it is reality. People's instincts would kick in and everybody would be in survival mode, getting food for themselves and probably close family, but certainly not strangers.
ReplyDeleteSo I have a question. What if some else treats you violently how are you supposed to react? The idea of treating people how you want to be treated is fine and dandy as long as you are with other good people, but that's not always the case. So I don't know I just thought it was a flaw in your principle.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is great for living in a society where the actions of people are important, and having a strong connection can help everyone involved, either a little or immensely. I think it does best in a world like today, where actions by being kind and generous can help both and build a connection as well. While in a situation with not many people and having to fend for yourself, any such rewards may not be as prevalent, but it is still something to keep in mind no matter what.
